Keep calm and giddy up!
At the Boddington Lions Rodeo you’re so close to the action that it’s impossible not to get excited. Bull riding is one of the highlights of the rodeo. The ground shakes as the angry, heavy bull kicks the ground. The cowboys ready themselves in anticipation of the struggle. The danger is almost palpable. After a short struggle the cowboy flies off the victorious bull and a puff of red dust fills the air as he crashes to the ground. There’s so much activity, colour, passion, motion and adrenaline in the air that you can almost taste it.
The explosive moments start after the chute opens and the bull comes bounding out, jumping, kicking and breathing heavily. The cowboy desperately trying to stay on its back as long as he possibly can. After the short tussle you just know the worst is yet to come, which only spurs the yelling and cheering on more.
Some of the cowboys managed to get off of the bulls without any major problems but others were not so lucky. Once the fight is over it’s a race to the fence; an angry bull with long sharp horns is the perfect motivator for speed though
The cowboys and girls are amazingly dedicated and live to take part in Rodeo’s such as this. It’s almost as if it runs in their blood.
And that’s just the beginning…
At the Boddington Lions Rodeo you’ll also find cowboy and girl’s testing their skills on horses and other livestock.
There was a Barrel Race where a horse and rider attempt to complete a clover-leaf pattern in the fastest time. Tie-down roping, features a calf and a rider mounted on a horse. Bulldogging, horse-mounted rider chases a steer, drops from the horse to the steer, then wrestles the steer to the ground by twisting its horns. Team roping includes a steer and two mounted riders. Bronco riding, a rodeo participant riding a jumping horse. There was music, kids’ entertainment, food, drinks and even a car exhibition.
