Best Day Escapes
Serpentine National Park
When you’re surrounded by forested hills, wetlands and waterfalls it’s easy to forget you’re only thirty minutes away from Perth. With shaded grassed areas, Serpentine National Park is the perfect picnic spot. Bring your bathers in summer and take a dip in the rock pools. Home to a variety of native plants, Serpentine is popular amongst wildflower enthusiasts. Visit between July and November to see them in full bloom.
Mandurah is a seaside town that ticks every box on the holiday wish list. Restaurants with unbeatable water views line the foreshore, many of them with award-winning seafood.Explore the waterways by choosing from one of the many cruises on offer, or hire a canoe to move across the water at a slower pace. If you’re more comfortable on land, Mandurah’s public art trail and guided heritage walk will allow you to see Mandurah from a new perspective.
Lane Poole Reserve
Dwellingup’s Lane Poole Reserve is the ultimate nature escape. The Murray River weaves through luscious forest, over rock-rimmed pools and waterfalls. You can explore the wilderness by walking the trails, swimming, canoeing and rafting the river, or simply having a picnic and breathing the fresh air.
Half way between Waroona and Dwellingup lies ‘WA’s best kept secret,’ Lake Navarino (Waroona Dam). Nestled in the jarrah forest, Lake Navarino is known for its tranquility and is a popular spot to unwind. The lake lends itself to water skiing, wakeboarding, canoeing and freshwater fishing (with a license). There are also picnic tables, barbecues and toilets available.
